Researcher of all things social, behavioral, design, and user experience.

Hi, I’m Marie. I have 13 years of experience in research and UX, and I believe in research as a tool to find opportunities to solve real problems for people and organizations through human-centered, systems-aware products and services.

I’m passionate about research at the intersections of behavioral science, cognitive psychology, and personal and collective experience. I value ethical and inclusive research and delivering right-sized rigor no matter the resources at hand.

For the past three years, I've been immersed in the dynamic world of product development at Google as a Senior UX Researcher on the TechIntel team. My focus centers on understanding the processes, collaboration dynamics, and essential tools that drive product velocity and innovation. I'm particularly passionate about exploring the often-overlooked contributions and unique needs of non-developer roles within these environments, striving to foster more effective and impactful product creation journeys.

Prior to Google, I led UX research at Teladoc Health (formerly Livongo), where I guided research for both existing and new products and programs aimed at empowering members managing chronic conditions such as prediabetes, diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and heart failure. In this role, I collaborated closely with cross-functional partners to pinpoint high-value research avenues, spearhead projects, and deliver actionable insights throughout the entire design and product lifecycle, encompassing discovery, formative, and evaluative research.

My journey also includes significant experience in the global humanitarian sector, where I led generative and evaluative user research focused on tackling critical human challenges in some of the world's most complex environments. This unique background, coupled with my artistic inclinations as a visual artist and creative, allows me to bring a balanced blend of analytical reasoning and imaginative thinking to my work.

My diverse experiences have cultivated a strong ability to navigate personal, social, and cultural nuances. I prioritize meeting people where they are and conducting research that keeps their needs at the forefront while aligning with stakeholder priorities and business objectives. I am particularly enthusiastic about designing participatory experiences for both participants and stakeholders that foster deep understanding and information assimilation. To this end, I integrate visual communication, storytelling, and story facilitation into my research practice.

Rooted in the Midwest, my path has taken me through Germany, Afghanistan, Ireland, and Iraq before leading me to my home in Oakland. Beyond my professional pursuits, I deeply appreciate (and am slightly obsessed with) Afghan carpets, painting, textile and fiber arts, cookbooks and the joy of creating new baking recipes, the sounds of Motown, and the music of Robyn.
